M.O. "Shorty" Allison, age 88 of Breckenridge, died Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at Cedar Crest Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 8th, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Andrew Channer and Rev. Charles West officiating. Interment will follow in the Breckenridge Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary.
Murl Orvis Allison was born on June 26, 1922 in Brown County, Texas to parents, John Wesley Allison and Lora Ozona Walker Allison. He graduated from Bangs High School and later attended Ranger College. Mr. Allison enlisted in the United States Air Force in which he served as an Aircraft Technician during WWII. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Mr. Allison moved to Breckenridge, Texas, where he met and married the love of his life, Maude McClure. They continued to make their home in Breckenridge, where Shorty worked for many local grocers, including A&P, Buddie's, Winn Dixie and City Square Garden. Later, he served as the Tax Appraiser of Breckenridge Independent School District, retiring in 1985 after fifteen years of service. After his "retirement" Shorty worked as a delivery man for Rene's Buckaroo Florist.
Mr. Allison was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church of Breckenridge. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 492, where he served as past master; Order of the Eastern Star; Breckenridge Lions Club and Elks Lodge No. 1480. A charitable man, Shorty also delivered Meals On Wheels to homebound individuals and he was elected as Breckenridge's Citizen of the Year in 1990. Always a loyal Buckaroo at heart, he also supported the band and athletic programs and was very active in the Booster Clubs. In earlier years, he was a member of the Breckenridge City Baseball team and also coached both Breckenridge Little League and Pony League Baseball teams. Next to the Buckaroos, one of his favorite pastimes was ballroom dancing.
Mr. Allison was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Charlene Brewer; great granddaughter, Kaitlin Credicott; brother, Glen Allison and sister, Johnie Lee Jenkins.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy Credicott and husband, Eddie of Breckenridge; three grandsons, Norman Brewer of Dallas, Andy Credicott and wife, Kathy of Oklahoma City, OK and Chris Credicott and wife, Shellie of Fort Worth; five great grandchildren, Regan Credicott, Nicholas Credicott, Noelle Credicott, Cooper Credicott and Elliott Brewer; one sister, Dorothy Rhodes of Brownwood and a host of nephews and nieces.
